Whether you are an owner of a Cadillac LYRIQ or a potential buyer, thinking about one practical thing before your next long trip, the mode you choose is a question that might come up. Here, we are talking about the question: Does the mode actually change how far you go? Well, it does,  and the difference can be big enough to really matter.

The battery is Fixed While Your Efficiency Changes.

All LYRIQs operate using a 102 kWh Ultium battery. There aren’t any modifications of the physical size of the pack brought about by a driving mode; however, each mode changes significantly how efficiently the car uses the battery. Your choice of mode, in fact, can cause changes in the real-world range by 20 to 70 miles on a single charge.

This is quite a substantial difference for a high-end EV. Here is what each mode actually does, going by their performance.

Tour Mode – Strive for Your Maximum Range Every Day

The LYRIQ automatically starts in Tour Mode every time the driver switches it on. Cadillac has made it for daily driving,  both in city traffic and on the highway, it is smooth, comfortable, and relaxing. The range you can expect when you charge the battery fully in this mode is between 307 and 314 miles, which is very much in line with what Cadillac says.

Why Is Tour Mode More Efficient

Tour Mode works about 8–10% more efficiently than Sport Mode under normal conditions. Actual drivers confirm this, for example, one owner measured on average 2.5 mi/kWh at 70 mph in Tour Mode while only 2.1 mi/kWh in Sport Mode, which roughly corresponds to 50–60 extra miles at highway speeds.

When it comes to range, Tour will be your friend the moment you need it.

How Much Range Is Sacrificed with Sport Mode?

Owners state that they were able to drive 10–25% less efficiently in spirited Sport Mode driving, with consumption dropping from Tour’s 3+ mi/kWh to a range of 2.0–2.8 mi/kWh. At stable highway speeds, the difference is smaller, but an aggressive use will make it wider very quickly.

You can use Sport Mode for the drive in a short burst, overtaking, or going on twisty roads. Then back to the tour for the rest of the trip.

Snow/Ice Mode – Focus on Safety, Not on Range

This mode modifies the accelerator to make the pedal softer, which limits slipping wheels and sets up all-wheel drive to more evenly distribute power among the four wheels, giving you better control on slippery roads.

The Range Compromise When It Is Cold

Overall, Snow/Ice Mode is less efficient by 3–8% compared to Tour Mode, mainly because the traction control systems are working harder all the time. Besides this, cold weather decreases range even further by 15–25%.

The small efficiency sacrifice is well worth it when it comes to icy conditions. It is something you should use without second thought.

My Mode – Create a Customized Balance of Efficiency

You get the steering weight, suspension stiffness, and acceleration response fully adjustable, and you can even create your own efficiency sweet spot with My Mode. When you tune it to performance, the range will go down. On the other hand, tuning it for comfort will let you save battery life.

My Mode Has Great Potential to Outperform the EPA Rating

Those who dial in a highly conservative version of My Mode with soft throttle, maximum regeneration, Eco HVAC, and One-Pedal Driving say they actually get close to 340 – 360 miles in real-world range.

That range is higher than the official EPA estimate. Most LYRIQ owners have this hidden efficiency feature almost unutilized.

V-Mode Pushes Performance Even Further

V-Mode allows the driver to configure the vehicle for ultimate handling, enabling Launch Control and Competitive Mode. These modes are the highest energy consumers in the entire LYRIQ range, and they’re only there for super sporty driving.

Think of both of those modes as track tools, not commuting aids.

In Conclusion

Do the driving modes in the Cadillac Lyriq offer different ranges or battery usages? The LYRIQ modes driving aren’t just a show; they each result in a real and measurable change to how far the car can take you.

  • Tour Mode offers the maximum range for everyday driving
  • Sport Mode amps up the feel but drops efficiency by 10–25%
  • Snow/Ice Mode comes to the rescue with traction at a small sacrifice of efficiency
  • My Mode, when set conservatively, may exceed the EPA estimate
  • Velocity Max and V-Mode are performance-driven, not efficiency-driven

By just switching the driving mode and having different driving habits, the very same LYRIQ can give you a range anywhere from 238 to 362 miles. Learning about the modes not only makes you more knowledgeable about driving, but it also makes you more capable of operating the ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌car.
