Over two years ago, a 15-year-old boy from Hendersonville, Tennessee, walked out of his house and disappeared without a trace. Authorities have investigated hundreds of leads. Search teams have covered thousands of acres. However, Sebastian Rogers is still missing, and his case is one of the most haunting unsolved disappearances in the U.S.
Who is Sebastian Rogers?
Sebastian Wayne Drake Rogers was born on December 7, 2008, in Tennessee. He and his mother, Katie Rogers and stepfather Chris Proudfoot resided in the Beech area of Hendersonville, Sumner County. Upon examination, doctors diagnosed Sebastian with autism and 6Q27 chromosomal deletion syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects development and behavior. Sebastian needed daily care and medication.
His dad, Seth Rogers, paints a picture: “A bright light, fun, energetic, a little mischievous at times, but what kid isn’t?”
Sebastian Rogers is 5’5″ tall, weighs around 120 lbs, has blond or light brown hair and brown or hazel eyes. He wore black, square-framed glasses.
The Night that Never Should Have Happened
On February 25, 2024, Sebastian Rogers and his mother had an ordinary day. Their activities consisted of shopping at a department store, playing video games at a bowling alley, and having dinner at a local restaurant.
Katie tucked Sebastian in between 9 and 10 p.m. Almost 10 p.m., she heard a loud thud in his room and called to him. Sebastian said that he was all right. She told him to sleep; they had school in the morning.
Katie had a nearly two-hour phone conversation with her husband before going to bed at around midnight. The following day, she tried to wake Sebastian for school, but his room was empty.
Besides a small yellow flashlight, everything belonging to Sebastian was left behind. His shoes, clothes, Nintendo Switch, phone, medication, and all the money were still in the house.
Nearly 2,000 searchers scoured 44,000 acres of land within a 4.5-mile radius of Sebastian’s house. Responders travelled approximately 2,000 miles on foot. Teams explored forests, streams, and even a landfill in Kentucky – all to no avail.
Hours of footage from nearby homes and a dashcam mounted on Katie’s car demonstrated that the property was not entered or exited by any automobile that night. No surveillance cameras captured Sebastian after this. After a week of searching, the ground search was wound down, and the focus was shifted to the formal investigation.
The Inquiry: Several Hundred Leads and None Resulting in a Breakthrough
On the mother of all pranks, the FBI was itching to find a real lead, but every tip fizzled out without the discovery of a single actionable clue. The pants that were found near the area in May 2024 turned out to be a false lead. Nearby, glasses were discovered, but they did not belong to Sebastian. In September 2025, the FBI disposed of two widely circulating theories, one involving a green-hooded individual near a local restaurant, whom authorities had identified and cleared.
Two Years Later: Family Wants Explanation
Seth Rogers has gone around Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, and Mississippi in search of his son. He employed private investigators and publicly demanded that the FBI take control of the case. Eric Craddock, the sheriff, is of the opinion that the case remains open, not cold.
