Like many people who grew up in the age of the Internet, serial software entrepreneur Elin Doughouz had a close relationship with technology while growing up. However, unlike many millennials whose relationship with technology only went as far as social networking, e-commerce, and sharing funny videos over the Internet, Doughouz’s relationship with technology went deep into computer systems’ inner workings.

Born in Nalchik, Russia in 1992, Doughouz had an international childhood, moving to the Netherlands at the age of 2 and relocating to Syria at age of 14 during his teenage years. The changing locales he encountered in his youth challenged him to become adaptable and attentive to cultural differences, while also giving him insight into universal needs and desires that all cultures shared.

At the age of 13, his interests led him down the path of learning cybersecurity and hacking techniques, understanding the ins and outs of computer infrastructures and their vulnerabilities. During his teenage years, he was already creating simple experimental programs using C# to understand how malicious code operates. Through his curiosity and experimentation, he learned a great deal about cybersecurity risks and how systems could be protected from attacks. This experience would serve him well later in life, when he became involved in the hosting technology industry.

As he neared the end of his secondary education, Doughouz was able to parlay his interests in programming and cybersecurity into a paying job as an app developer. While he was creating desktop applications for Windows and mobile applications for the Android and iOS operating systems, he was refining his skills and learning more about programming and software development. After completing his baccalaureate, he briefly enrolled in an Information and Technology program in college to add to his knowledge base in computer science, but decided to forgo finishing his university studies to focus on the work he was already doing as a software developer.

Once he reached his 20s, Doughouz was selling his own software products on the global marketplace Codecanyon under the company name ScriptSun. He received his first taste of entrepreneurship as more than 10,000 users and companies around the world purchased his software. Some of his most popular products were his programs for creating social media and software platforms, which were used to launch platforms such as WoWonder and PlayTube.

Despite his success, Doughouz was still aware of unmet needs that certain businesses had. He had a vision for a web hosting platform that could provide reliable infrastructure for companies running complex scripts for their websites. He sought to differentiate his company from other web hosting providers by combining high-performance infrastructure with direct technical assistance. This would ensure that companies could focus on building their platforms and running their businesses, instead of worrying about managing their servers and the technical issues that came with them.

Driven by this necessity, Doughouz founded UltaHost with his brother, Deen Doughouz, in 2018. Today, UltaHost is a multimillion-dollar company with headquarters in the United States and offices worldwide in countries such as Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates. It has more than 33 data centers in over 28 countries. As UltaHost has grown, Doughouz has committed to continuing to push the boundaries of technology with initiatives such as UltaAI, an AI-based infrastructure automation system.

The career path of Elin Doughouz portrays the mindset of an inventor through his ability to identify issues, question the solutions offered by others, and come up with better ways of handling such problems. Doughouz’s curiosity led him to collect different strands of knowledge, from using software to understanding security issues, at a young age. Today, he applies everything he has learned to design different platforms that are utilized on a global level.
